Weekend yoga  intensives in Dili, Timor Leste

The intensives are informal, small group and hands on classes at the small Goa style yoga shala “uma iis tasi “at Beto Tasi beach near Dili International Airport. There is lots of room for bringing the technical parts into practice by repetition, trial and error , and by helping eachother with the various practices as we can learn a lot of other people’s practice. And many aspects of the 8 limbs of yoga are covered. Additionally Buddhist practices are ordered to create a holistic practice.
The intensive are build from modules and the student has the freedom to choose and combine the modules to serve his or her needs. There is time for Q&A and no particular level is necessary. It is a great getaway for the Dili expat or the Dili visitor who likes to add a bit of yoga time to there Dili stay .
Yang vs yin intensive
We will be investigating earth’s gravitational field from yang and yin angles. Working against with vinyasa technics, inversions, jump backs and through. With gravity by means of surrender and letting go, passive/ yin stretching. Towards it by exploring the fear of falling. Away from it by means of meditation.
Module yang ; vinyasa technic (a small part of the class could be practiced on the beach and in the ocean, please bring beach wear and towel if you like to participate. Shower available.)
Module yin : yin yoga, pranayama and meditation

Total hip workout
An intensive of giving the hips a total workout using various different technics. Applying the hip mobility in various arm balance asana, and finally to get the benefits of being able to sit more comfortable for a longer period of time.
Module hip opening & arm balance ; passive and active stretching, strengthening, lengthening and Thai massage technics
Module yin yoga ; passive stretching, pranayama and meditation
Module mantra ; chanting of various Hindu mantras

Bridging primary to intermediate.
Strategically scheduled between the Saturday morning LED primary class and Sunday morning LED beyond primary class (at the Ocean View location an eight minutes beach walk away from the shala) were we move into the intermediate series. This intensive is the bridge between primary and intermediate by moving from primary into intermediate with a strong focus on back bending. As primary is concentrating on forward bends, intermediate starts with deeper back bends. A condition according the KPJAY institute to start intermediate is to be able to drop back into Urdhva Dhanurasana on your own. Hence we will be working toward that, and beyond.

A simple and small Goa style yoga shala right on the beach near Dili International Airport. Dili Ashtanga Yoga is holding space here for small and personal in-depth yoga classes/immersions and workshops to investigate all the 8 limbs of the yoga practice . A great nearby spot to escape Dili’s city life and your daily life by the the practices of yoga. The classes can be inside, semi outside or on the beach and even in the water. Mediation, breathe exercises, yoga asana, chanting, relaxation and more will be moved into.
Beto Tasi has a Goa feel without the tourists.

Most classes as usual, only the week between Christmas and New Year some evening classes are cancelled.

All weekend afternoon classes are now at the new yoga shala Uma iis Tasi at cemetery beach and are part of a yoga intensive package. The classes can be joined separately or as a combo.

A week of Mysore and/or LED Ashtanga based classes in central Dili

Dili Ashtanga Yoga togehter with Ahimsaka offers a work week (Mon to Fri) of Ashtanga centered early morning classes at the Uma Dame ( shanti house) in the central and residential area of Dili. Near the Indonesian embassy and beach.

For any one who likes to start the week day with a serious practice, local, expat or short term visiting. This package is a great way to add some yoga to your Dili time. Two blocks away from the Indonesian embassy which makes it an ideal spot to practice while waiting for your visa. Accommodation is next to the embassy and decent and affordable restaurants are nearby.

Mon to Fri starting from 6 to 6.15 a.m. till 8 a.m. (or when you are finished)

Uma Dame is a simple yoga shala within a local residential neighbourhood and next to focusing on the Ashtanga practice, it tries to familiarise the Timorese with the Ashtanga Yoga practice. It is based in an 1 level high platform container construction facing east and is semi open. It will give you some astonishing sun rises and the awakening of a new Dili day.

Accommodation is next to Indonesian embassy and is nothing fancy and definitely not the level of nearby Bali , it is convenient and covers the basic necessities. Their Italian restaurant is recommended within the expat community.

The classes are a mix of Mysore and LED classes with hands-on adjustments and towards the end time to explore deeper some of the aspects of the practice. Please communicate your requests/focus and wishes to the teacher Ahimsaka and he will cater the classes towards it.

The classes are all levels and please give any information about disability, injury or state of body prior to the class to the teacher.

Dili is a small city, and the classes are small too, which gives the opportunity for more personal attention. If requested additional classes later during the day can be scheduled.

Dili Ashtanga Yoga schedule November onwards

After a long period of a regular yoga schedule, the month of october was a month of change and new beginnings.

Dili Ashtanga Yoga opened two new yoga shalas in Dili.

Uma Dame, shanti house, in central dili, Farol, Palopaso, and

Uma iis tasi, house of ocean breath, beto tasi/cemetery beach, near dili international airport.

Uma Dame will focus on mysore and led style classes, while Uma iis tasi will be a space for yoga intensive/weekend getaways.

Uma Dame , shanti house, is the first yoga shala in Timor Leste. And Dili Ashtanga Yoga (D.A.Y.) is the first yoga school in Timor Leste dedicated to offer the practice of yoga to anyone who is interested in yoga. Uma Dame has especially a focus on Mysore and LED style classes, and community yoga.

Yoga schedule March 2017

Last year March Ahimsa-Ka established Dili Ashthanga Yoga, and it will continue for this year with a similar schedule. The early morning classes either at Ocean View or Dili Wellness both serve as the back bone for all the other yoga classes . Though any class can be followed as a stand alonealone, the complete yoga schedule is fabricated to create a more complete yoga practice and understanding.

The Tuesday and Thursday morning can be used for a Mysore style approach, the weekend early morning classes for a LED style class, the other days are an hybrid of this 2 styles.

The late weekend morning classes and Tuesday lunch class are ideal for a gentle flow with equal focus on strengthening, lengthening, activation and relaxation.

Ayurveda within Yoga
At Dili Wellness upstairs studio
Saturday morning 10.00 to 11.30 a.m.
These yoga classes are the practical follow up of last years ayurveda & yoga classes. Last year sessions where mostly informatif, the current sessions will be yoga asana based from the ayurvedic spectrum. The classes could focus on a particular body constitution or body sheet (Dosha), focussing on balancing all 3 Dosha, or giving different practices to different students to balance their particular body constitution . No prior yoga or ayurvedic experience is necessary and the classes are for all levels. For every new student Ahimsa-Ka will try to determine their individual constitution and imbalances and work towards a balancing yoga session with the help of yoga asana, pranayama and meditation technics. Both sciences, ayurveda and yoga, are used as tools to establish and maintain an equilibrium of a healthy body, steady mind in an ever changing environment.
Beyond asana; moving into the field of breathe and brain

Saturday 15.15 to 16.45 p.m.
The amount of actual poses will be limited in this class, and we will do a fairly amount of sitting. A main focus of yoga is breathe, in particular a deep long breathe. Which is what we will explore and exercise in this class. In an hour and a half we will explore various breathe exercises to deepen and lengthen the breathe, together with some medication and relaxation technics. Which can be all complimentary to your diving or running practice and especially to your general well being.
No prior experience of yoga is necessary, though could be beneficial. As for yoga asana classes try to arrive with an empty stomach .
